Abiodun Durojaye, Ed.D is the Founder & CEO of AsidaLove and a TEDx Speaker. She is a visionary leader, a wife, mother, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Here is how she is leading beautifully in this season:
“A defining moment in my career was my decision to leave a stable, well-paying role in human resources to pursue a path in education. On paper, it didn’t make sense.
I took a significant pay cut and stepped into a field where I had limited experience and had been away from for years. But I knew, with conviction, that my purpose was tied to expanding access and opportunity for young people, particularly those who have been historically marginalized.
That transition might not have happened without Dr. Tolu Idowu. She took a chance on me when I didn’t check every traditional box. More importantly, she saw potential, what could be, and paired that belief with mentorship and trust. Her decision changed the trajectory of my career.
Because of that opportunity, I was able to re-enter higher education and begin doing the work that has since defined my path: connecting young people to experiences, networks, and opportunities that can transform their futures.
That moment didn’t just represent a career pivot, it clarified my calling. It also shaped how I lead today. I am deeply committed to seeing and investing in potential in others, just as Dr. T did for me.
One way I create impact beyond my formal role is through mentoring young people and leading praise dance at my church. While it may seem like a creative outlet on the surface, it has become a space where I intentionally invest in young people’s confidence, discipline, and sense of belonging.
Through this work, I am not just teaching dance. I am creating an environment where young people feel seen, supported, and encouraged to express themselves. I use that space to build relationships, reinforce leadership skills, and help them navigate challenges both within and beyond the church.
In this season, I’ve also been more intentional about how I show up. Earlier in my career, I focused on delivering results and letting the work speak for itself.
Now, I recognize that visibility is also a responsibility. I’ve been more deliberate about sharing my perspective in spaces aligned with my values and telling my story more openly, connecting my journey as a first-generation Nigerian immigrant to the work I lead.
Ultimately, my approach to personal branding is about alignment and being visible in ways that reflect my values, amplify the work, and create pathways for others to access opportunity.”
